*RANG PANCHAMI* is a Hindu festival celebrated just five days after the colourful festival of Holi. It is observed on the ‘Panchami’ (5th day) of the Krishna Paksha (the waning phase of moon) during the ‘Chaitra’ month of the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated with full fervour in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, and some regions of North India.
2. The Election Commission has issued a notification banning the conduct, publication or publicising of exit polls between 7.00 am of April 19 and 6.30 pm of June 1 when votes will be cast for the Lok Sabha and four state Assembly polls.
3. The Congress will hold nationwide protests over the weekend against fresh income tax demand of over Rs 1,800 crore, which it has described as an "egregious attack" on democracy and imposition of "tax terrorism" amid the crucial Lok Sabha elections.
4. The Environment Ministry of India has recently introduced new rules that make it more difficult for manufacturers of disposable plastic products to label them as ‘biodegradable.’
The updated Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2024, now require that biodegradable plastics not only degrade through biological processes in specific environments but also leave no microplastics behind.
5. In a big blow to the Congress in MP and ahead of first phase of Lok Sabha polls, sitting congress MLA Kamesh Shah (51) from Amarwada assembly seat joined BJP.
6. I.N.D.I.A bloc on Friday sealed the seat-sharing deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will contest 26 of the state’s 40 Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress will field candidates on nine seats. The Left parties will contest five seats.
7. The world’s first-ever temple designed in the iconic Om shape has been inaugurated in the village of Jadan, Pali district of Rajasthan. 1. The post-mortem on gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari confirmed that he died of cardiac arrest, a hospital source said on Friday.
Ansari, a former MLA who had been booked in more than 60 cases, died Thursday night after he was rushed to the Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from the district jail, where he was lodged.
2. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday released fresh images of Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa, the suspects in the Rameshwram Cafe blast that left 10 injured on March 1 in Bengaluru.
3. Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav will attend Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) 'Maharally' to be held on 31 March.

Hours after Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunit Kejriwal launched a campaign to seek public support, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched a scathing attack and compared her to former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, and said she is perhaps preparing to hold the post of her husband.

1. Procurement of services through the GeM portal witnessed a staggering 205% growth in the current financial year 2023-24, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has closed the current fiscal year on a high note, crossing the milestone of Rs 4 lakh crore in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV).
2. Composite materials producer Jindal Advanced Materials (JAM) has collaborated with Italy's MAE S.p.A. to invest ₹2,700 crore to set up a carbon fibre plant of 3,500 metric tons annual capacity.
3. Recently, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have introduced trading in the T+0 rolling settlement cycle in the equity segment on an optional basis. This new settlement cycle allows for same-day settlement of trades, in addition to the existing T+1 settlement cycle.
4. Axis Bank has announced the introduction of digital US dollar fixed deposits (FDs) for NRI customers at the IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) at GIFT City, Gujarat. The bank has become the first to offer a digital journey for opening deposits at GIFT City.
5. The Adani Group has announced the start of the first phase of the world’s largest single-location copper manufacturing plant at Mundra in Gujarat. The facility, owned by Kutch Copper (a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd), will help reduce India’s dependence on copper imports and support the energy transition.

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence has tracked five Chinese naval vessels and four military aircraft operating around the nation until 6 am (local time) on Friday.In response to China's action, Taiwanese armed forces monitored the situation and deployed aircraft and naval ships and air defence missile systems to monitor the Chinese army's activity.
5. Indian Air Force (IAF) has disclosed the reasons behind the accidental firing of a BrahMos combat missile into Pakistan in March 2022. The IAF revealed that the combat connectors of the missile remained connected to the junction box, causing the accidental firing.

4. Pakistan has made a U-turn on resuming trade with India. On Thursday (Mar 28), Pakistan's Foreign Office said it had no plan to resume trade relations with India, days after new Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that Islamabad would seriously consider restoring ties with New Delhi.
Trade relations between the two countries have been non-existent since 2019 after the Modi government abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
